Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Ave.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

To celebrate Jean's life friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Behr's Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

There will be a parish wake service said at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Behr's Funeral Home.

Jean was born on August 4, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Theresa (Pfab) Jochum.

Jean was employed at the Battery Factory and the Dubuque Packing Company. She married Thomas Benn on June 10, 1952, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque. After they married, Jean became a full time wife, mother and homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, bowling, dancing and occasionally trying her luck at the casino. She was an avid Cubs fan and attended several games. Jean and Tom loved traveling. They visited every state west of the Mississippi and even took two trips to Ireland. Jean was a member of the Ladies Fraternal Order of Eagles #568. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

her husband of 59 years: Thomas Benn, Dubuque, Iowa
her son: Robert (DanEl') Benn, Dubuque, Iowa
her daughter: Barb (Steve) Hohmann, Dubuque, Iowa
6 grandchildren: Rhiannon and McKenzie Benn
Ashley, Jeremy, Jeff and Holly Hohmann
1 great-granddaughter: Naomi Ransford

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings Robert Jochum in childhood, Lucille McCoy and Bud Jochum.

A Jean E. Benn memorial fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kukla, his nurses and staff at Medical Associates and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque and TLC Homecare for their care and concern for Jean and her family.
