Place and cause of death: at home surrounded by his loving family of natural causes.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Ave.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where Military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion Post 6.
To celebrate Harold's life family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at Behr's Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.
There will be a parish wake service said at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Behr's Funeral Home.
Harold was born on August 31, 1931, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Eugene and Marion (Genszler) McCaffery.
Mac served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Yokohama, Japan. He married Marie Brimeyer on June 6, 1959, in Dubuque, at Sacred Heart Church. Mac was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works for 35 years, retiring in 1981 as a supervisor. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, the Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and the John Deere Supervisors Club. He and Marie enjoyed ballroom dancing. Mac was an avid bowler and ran the bowling lanes at Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity. He enjoyed camping and being in the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Mac loved playing cards, especially Euchre. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

Theresa (Randy Rodgers) Clasen, Bellevue, Iowa
Kathleen (Matt) Konrardy, Dubuque, Iowa
4 sons: Thomas (Janel) McCaffery, Dubuque, Iowa
Michael (Peggy Slattery) McCaffery, Cincinnatti, Ohio
William (Angie) McCaffery, North Liberty, Iowa
Timothy (Kathy) McCaffery, Dubuque, Iowa
26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren
a sister: Barbara Zillig, Rohrersville, MD
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Eugene Joseph in infancy, a sister, June Furlong and 2 brothers, LaVerne and Eugene Jr.
A Harold G. McCaffery memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mozena, the nurses and staff at Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque.
