Daughter of Frank and Mary (Graf) Schmitt

Brief personal history: Bertha married Frank G. Basten, Sr., on April 30, 1937, at St. Patrick's in Dubuque. Francis preceded her in death on July 3, 2000. Bertha was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of St. Patrick's and a former member of the Orioles Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, and especially playing cards and Cribbage with her family. Bertha will be remembered as a baker who made dessert everyday.

Preceded in death: her parents, her husband, 1 son; Frank "Bud" Basten, Jr, 1 grandson; David Estal, 4 sisters; Rosella (Roy) Basten, Marie (Leo) Hickie, Frances (Russell "Barney") Kissling, and Mildred McNett, 3 brothers: William (Hazel) Schmitt, Joseph (Alice) Schmitt, and Frank Schmitt.

Memorials: Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque 1670 JFK Rd, Dubuque in lieu of flowers.

Thank you: The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melanie and Jennica for their care and concern for Bertha.
