Fire Dept. Emblem

John L. Haberkorn, age 50, formerly of Dubuque, IA, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at his home in Middleton, WI. To honor John's life, funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon Jim Thill officiating. To celebrate John's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m., until the time of services at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, at Behr Funeral Home. A private burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Monday, December 4, 2017, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

John was born, along with his twin brother Jim, on December 21, 1966, in Dubuque, son of Allan and Janaan (White) Haberkorn.

John spent his formative years growing up in Dubuque. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves where he honorably served his country as a Corpsman. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Elmhurst College and spent most of his working career as a Quality Engineer. John became a proud member of the Middleton Fire Department, and soon discovered a special home among his fellow firehouse family. He also served on the Department's Honor Guard. John also found time to have fun with family and friends. Whether he was playing at the annual Loras College Alumni hockey game, watching his Cubbies "finally" win the World Series, confidently sporting his newest Batman t-shirt, or watching Smallville for the "Hundreth" time. His devotion and love for his children, Hannah and Noah, were undeniable. The world is definitely a lesser place today with the absence of John from our lives. We are forever grateful that his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him. It is comforting knowing that John, and his twin-brother Jim, are together once again.

Those left to cherish John's memory include:
his children,
Hannah Haberkorn
and Noah Haberkorn, both of Middleton, WI;

his mother,
Janaan Haberkorn, Dubuque, IA;

his brothers,
Richard White, Dubuque, IA
and Allan (Polly) Haberkorn, Canyon Lake, TX;

his nephews,
Michael (Rachel) White
and Grant Haberkorn, both of Dubuque, IA;

his nieces,
Theressa (Aaron) Dunn, Rota, Spain,
Jeana Owens, Dubuque, IA
and Michelle Haberkorn, Moncks Corner, SC;

John is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his loyal fur baby, Nux.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents; and his twin brother, Jim in 1989.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dane County Humane Society, the American Heart Association, or to the Education Fund that has been established to benefit his children, Hannah and Noah, at Summit Credit Union, 5419 Blue Bill Park Drive, Madison, WI 537604.

There will also be a memorial gathering in January at the Middleton Fire Department, Middleton, WI.
