To honor Chuck's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Avenue, with Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Chuck's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where a parish scripture wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Chuck was born on December 26, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Charles J. and Margaret (Murray) Rooney Sr.

Chuck proudly served his country as a medic with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Chuck would begin working at the Dubuque Pack after the war and loyally devote his entire working career there until his eventual retirement. When Chuck wasn't at work, you could be sure to find him investing his valuable time with his family. His devotion to family was instilled as a child who grew up in a home with 12 brothers and sisters. Chuck would seamlessly evolve into the world's greatest dad in time and all those around him would clearly see that family was where his heart really beat. Whether it was years of Boy Scouts, playing catch in the back yard, putting on the bowling shoes, warming up in the batters cage, teeing off from the back pins on a sunny day, or even a "friendly" game of euchre; if family was involved (especially his boys), so was Chuck. Now Chuck was also a man of great faith and would spend almost his entire life growing within his relationship to his Lord and Savior. Weekly bible studies, years of Men's Catholic Retreats, countless hours of prayers, attending mass multiple times weekly, and living his outward physical life just as he did his inner spiritual life were all ways in which Chuck joyfully expressed his faith. Our hearts are broken today at the mere thought of never again, in this life, hearing our dear Chuck sincerely belly laugh at his own joke before he's even finished with it. But we know that his eternal soul is surely at peace from his earthly struggles now and we definitely find peace in knowing that we will all be together again one day where every tear will be dried, every heart will know love in it's truest form, and every joke "will" be funny. So until then, we'll tell the stories, cherish the memories and try to live our lives as a true testament to one of the greatest men the Lord has ever shared with our mortal world. Thank you and God bless you Chuck for all you did during your journey with us!
