Heart Emblem

Virginia Lois Neyens, age 89, of Dubuque, IA, passed away suddenly at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Lois' life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road, with Rev. Joseph L. Hauer officiating. To celebrate Lois' life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Lois was born on April 23, 1927, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of George and Gertrude (Lange) Pfeiffer.

Lois was a proud lifelong resident of Dubuque who thoroughly appreciated her opportunity to spend her 89 year earthly journey right here in God's country. She would eventually meet and marry the love of her life, Joseph Neyens, on September 12, 1953, in Dubuque, and they were truly blessed with 33 wonderful years together, and 3 wonderful sons, before her beloved Joseph was called home ahead of her on February 3, 1987. In pure Lois fashion, she would graciously devote over 44 years of her life to serving others as a nurse at Xavier and Mercy Hospitals. Lois was a also a genuinely kind and faith filled woman who regularly found peace in her life through her membership at the Church of the Resurrection. She would volunteer with numerous community service projects over her life, with some of her favorites being the auxiliary president of the Eagles Club, as well as sitting on the committee for the Dubuque Memorial Day Parade. Lois definitely had a couple of favorite ways to spend her time on any given free day though; a little tending time in the garden or even some quality time with her grandkids were always on the top of Lois' to do list. Lois has surely left the world in better condition than when she found it. Her acts of love, generosity, compassion and inspiration will carry on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her for decades to come. We mourn our temporary absence from our dear Lois, but we are relieved to know that she is finally reunited with her husband, Joe, and her beloved son, Doug, once again.

Lois is survived by

her 2 sons,
Scott (Cheryl) Neyens, Dubuque, IA
and Jay Neyens, Glendale, AZ;

her 7 grandchildren,
Nicholas (Marisa) Neyens, Jennifer (James) Doser, Casey Neyens, Lindsay (Michael) Quam, Hannah (fiancé William Broessel) Neyens, Zachary Neyens and Joshua Neyens;

her 9 great-grandchildren,
Jack, Finn, Penelope, Elliot, Xavier, Rylie, Aiden, Keegan and Isabella;

and her siblings,
Thomas (Charlotte) Pfeiffer, Dubuque, IA,
Terry (Bonnie) Pfeiffer, St. Catherine, IA
and Janice Sieverding, Bellevue, IA;

a sister-in-law,
Marlys Pfeiffer, McGregor, IA.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joseph; a son, Doug Neyens; a sister, Jean (Charles) Cole; a brother Dr. Donald Pfeiffer; a brother-in-law, Larry Sieverding; and her fiancé Ralph Dean.

A Virginia Lois Neyens memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Lois' family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Liaboe, the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital, and the staff at Eagle Pointe Place, for all of their kind and compassionate care.
