Sister Therese J. Jacobs, BVM (Therese Carmelle), age 87, of Marian Hall, Dubuque, was called home peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Marian Hall. To celebrate Sister Therese's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in the Marian Hall Chapel, 1050 Carmel Drive, followed by a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. To honor Sister Therese's life, a funeral liturgy will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Marian Hall Chapel. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Therese was born on May 9, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Harry Franklin and Mary Josephine (Mullahey) Jacobs. She joyfully entered the BVM congregation Sept. 8, 1947, from St. Mary Parish, Clinton, Iowa; professed her first vows on March 19, 1950, and her final vows on August 15, 1955, before faithfully devoting her life in service to the Lord.

Sister Therese taught seventh grade, eighth grade and music at St. Martin ES in Cascade, Iowa, and served as the formation director at Mount Carmel in Dubuque. She taught music in elementary and secondary schools in Davenport, Iowa; Kauai, Hawaii; Chicago, Illinois; Mundelein, Illinois; and St. Paul, Minnesota. She also faithfully served as BVM regional in Davenport, Iowa and also ministered on the college faculty and formation staff in Los Gatos, California. She served in pastoral ministry in Des Moines, Iowa; Jackson, Mississippi; and Kumasi, Ghana.

Those who remain to cherish Sister Therese's memory include

her brother,
Francis J. Jacobs, St. Paul, MN;

a brother-in-law,
Stewart Iliff, Warrenton, MO,;

a sister-in-law,
Marion Jacobs, Cedar Rapids, IA;

many nieces and nephews;

and her fellow Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared 69 years of her earthly journey.

Sister Therese was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Richard, Edwin, Bernard, Donald, Earl and John Paul; and her sisters Mary Ellen Clark and Bernice Ann Iliff.
