Heart Emblem

Rosemary C. Hoffman, age 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 9:15 a.m., on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Luther Manor, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Rosemary's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Sr. Margaret Anne Kramer, PBVM officiating. To celebrate Rosemary's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Rosemary was born on January 26, 1928, in Dubuque, IA, daughter of James and Bertha (Simon) Hochberger.

Rosemary was united in marriage to her soul-mate, Burton Hoffman, on September 27, 1948, at the Church of the Nativity. They were blessed with almost 68 years, and 2 wonderful children together, before he was called home ahead of her, just four months ago, on September 22, 2016. Faith, family and fun were definite priorities in Rosemary's life. She would devote her faith life to St. Anthony's Church, and without fail would proudly claim life-long and faithful member status during her 89 year earthly journey. Family would clearly hold a very close second place in Rosemary's heart and her love would know no limits when it came to those she adored. Any opportunity to spend some quality time with her precious family, especially her dearly loved grandchildren, was always taken with high regard to the memories and lessons which would one day remain. And finally, Rosemary never took herself so seriously that a little relaxation, and time for fun, couldn't find their way into her days. It would surely be difficult for Rosemary to pick her top 10 car rides with Burton over the years, as each one was a favorite outing and her excursions were always completed with the happy couple pulling back into the garage together awaiting to meet another day head on and hand in hand. Our hearts feel truly broken today with the pain of losing Rosemary and Burton in such a short time, but we know that they are both finally reunited again and will never have to bear another separation for all of eternity.

Those left to cherish Rosemary's memory include

her two children,
Dan (Ann) Hoffman
and Mary (John) McDonough, both of Dubuque, IA;

her four grandchildren,
Ben Hoffman, Adam (Jessica) Hoffman, Morgan McDonough and Emily McDonough;

her five great-grandchildren,
Madlin, Colin, Audrey, Cora and Juliete;

a sister,
Rita McCann, Dubuque, IA;

and her in-laws,
Deelee Preston, Dubuque, IA,
Charlene (Harold) Wiebold, Seal Beach, CA,
LaVonne Hoffman, Dubuque, IA
and Herbert "Buddy" Benn, Dubuque, IA.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burton Hoffman; a child in infancy; a brother, Clarence "Butch" (Arlene) Hochberger; 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Arnold) Williams and Donna Benn; and her brothers-in-law, John McCann, Charles "Chuck" Preston, Bill (Helen) Hoffman, Robert Hoffman and Red Morgan.

A Rosemary C. Hoffman memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Rosemary's family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor for all of the kind, compassionate and professional care they have provided to Rosemary and her family.
