Heart Emblem

Rita M. Miehe, age 93, of East Dubuque, IL and formerly of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 5:40 p.m., on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Rita's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 4, 2016, at St. Columbkille Church, 1230 Rush Street, with Rev. Gabriel C. Anderson officiating. To celebrate Rita's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Entombment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Rita was born on March 17, 1923, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of Ervin and Margaret (McDonald) Mahan.

Rita was a lifelong Dubuquer who took great pride in her faith, family, friends and neighbors. She was united in marriage to Robert Miehe on October 6, 1967, in Freeport, IL. They were blessed with 35 wonderful years together, and 5 adored children, before he was called home ahead of her on December 22, 2002. Rita's main goal in life was to care for, and nurture her family through each passing day. She would however invest over 11 years of her energies at Divine Word Seminary, where she would also find satisfaction in serving others along her way. Rita was always a very active woman who was continually, and faithfully involved with St. Columbkille's Church, V.F.W. #9663 Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary #6, and the Tri-States Veterans Memorial Association. Rita also enjoyed vacationing with Bob, working her most recent puzzle book, being dealt a great Euchre hand and always watching her Cubbies give the competition a run for the money. In what little free time she had left, you could easily find a smile on Rita's face when the hum of her sewing machine was gently filling the room. She would create countless beautiful quilts over the years, for numerous family and friends, which still remain today to be cherished as permanent keepsakes of Rita's devotion and love. Rita's 93 years here on earth has come to an end today, and she is now reunited with all of her loving family who've been called home ahead of her. We will miss her greatly and are incredibly thankful for the years, love and wisdom she shared along the way.
