Love Emblem

Phyllis V. Lenstra, age 91, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 6:15 a.m., on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Phyllis' life, funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Phyllis' life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Phyllis was born on June 23, 1925, in Darlington, WI, daughter of Joseph and Alma (LaDow) Mitchel.

Phyllis was a proud Dubuquer who gratefully awoke every morning to the comfort of country living. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, LaVerne C. Lenstra, on August 14, 1942, and they were blessed with 59 years together, and 3 wonderful children, before he was called home ahead of her on October 30, 2001. Phyllis took great pride in caring for her family, keeping a tidy home and reaping the continual harvest from her bountiful garden. In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed creating beautiful works on her sewing machine and was always up for a good game of cards with family and friends. But at the end of the day, Phyllis' true joy was easily discovered in the treasured moments she would get to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis, our dear wife, mother, grandmother and friend, has been graciously blessed with 91 years here with us to share in her life, love and laughter. Sadly though, today we find a tear in our hearts with the realization that we are now left with only memories and will be deeply and sincerely missing her until we are all together again one day.

Those left to cherish Phyllis memory include

her children,
Lillian Sahm, Balltown, IA,
Lester (Mary) Lenstra, Dubuque, IA
and Ronald (JoAnn) Lenstra, Dubuque, IA;

her 11 grandchildren;

and her 16 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, LaVerne Lenstra; a son-in-law, John "Jack" Sahm; 3 sisters, Julia, Margaret and Marie; and 5 brothers, Delbert, Joseph, Leo, Raymond and Frances.

A Phyllis V. Lenstra memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Phyllis' family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill for all of the extraordinary care they have provided to Phyllis these past years.
