Patriotic Emblem

Philip F. Schromen, age 58, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 1:45 p.m., on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Philip's life, funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Philip's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m., until the time of services at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Kieler, WI.

Philip was born on March 24, 1959, in Dubuque, son of Vincent R. and Ruth E. (Gaherty) Schromen.

Philip was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanine Egli, on June 24, 1988, and they were truly blessed with 29 wonderful years together, and 3 children. Philip diligently invested over 30 years of his working career with Prairie Farms, and was quite proud of the fact that he was able to discover retirement at the prime young age of 49. Philip has always treasured every opportunity to get out and ride his bike, but after retirement his love for the open road, or the most recent benefit run, were surely embraced with a newly found and invigorated passion. All who knew Philip personally would easily admit that he was a strong-willed man; but as much mischief as he would discover in his youth, he would completely override with his devotion to all he cared for along his journey. If you were a family member, or friend of Philip's, you could easily rest assured that he would definitely be there for you if the opportunity ever arose to prove his loyalty. Philip was an extremely fun loving soul who impacted the world around him in more ways than we can ever possibly count. Our hearts ache at their core today after the sudden loss of our dear husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. We will have one final toast to Philip at the Boat Club, while we both laugh and cry, as we cherish all the funny memories he leaves behind. Our tribe of 7 is now down to 6, and we are sad that God took the best home first, but we know we'll all be reunited again one day and the status of favorite will obviously be up for open debate once again.

Those left to cherish Philip's memory include

his loving wife,
Jeanine Schromen, Dubuque, IA;

his 3 children,
Andrew Schromen, Centralia, IA,
Justin "Bubba" Schromen, Asbury, IA
and Shelby Lynn (Wes Madden) Schromen, Cedar Rapids, IA;

his grandchildren,
Brayden Madden, and a beautiful baby girl on the way;

his siblings,
Aya (James) Brimeyer, Hazel Green, WI,
Julie Schromen, Dubuque, IA,
Christine (Ron) Gulyash, Dubuque, IA,
Vincent "Bill" (Debbie) Schromen, Hazel Green, WI,
Joellen Schromen, Evansville, WI
and Caroline (Bruce) Bush, Dubuque, IA;

his mother-in-law,
Grace Egli, Washington, IA;

and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Michael (Pearl) Gaherty and William (Louisa) Schromen; and his father-in-law, John Egli.

In lieu of flowers, a Philip F. Schromen memorial fund has been established.

Philip's family would like to thank Chuck and Becky, not only for all of their friendship over the years, but for so easily helping to make Philip's heart smile one last time!
