Dove Emblem

Mildred L. Stuart, age 95, of Monticello, and formerly of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. To honor Mildred's life, memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred was born on May 23, 1921, in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of Carl and Lillian (Henson) Davis.

Mildred spent her early years growing up in Joplin before eventually meeting her husband to be, Howard Stuart. They would be united in marriage on October 6, 1945, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Their union was blessed with 56 wonderful years together, and one adored son, before Howard was called home ahead of her on February 20, 2002. Mildred was a proud and loving wife and mother who earnestly devoted herself to caring for her family. She did find some time to work outside of her home with a few different companies over the years, but at the end of the day, Mildred's heart was always at home with her family. Mildred and Howard shared a strong faith in unity and were longtime members of St. Anthony's Church in Dubuque. They also enjoyed traveling together, and besides their well embraced status as Winter Texans, they would also spend their free-time venturing around the U.S. capturing all of the most desired sites firsthand. Mildred has spent 95 years making the most of her earthly journey and has surely left a legacy of love behind for those who knew and loved her to share. Sadly, she has created her final family quilt and placed her knitting needles down for now, but we know and trust that she has been reunited with her eternal family, once again, and that we will all have our new angel dutifully watching over us until we arrive.

Those left to cherish Mildred's memory include

her son,
Donald (Ellen) Covert, Platteville, WI;

her 3 grandchildren,
Robert (Rebecca) Covert, Murfreesboro, TN,
Linda (Sherrie Strand) Covert, Pardeeville, WI
and Thomas (Donna) Covert, Platteville, WI;

her 4 great-grandchildren,
James (Crystal) Covert,
Alysha (Fiancé Patrick Stambras) Mayo,
Danielle (Wade) Wilson
and Casey Beasley;

her 2 great-great grandchildren,
Faith Covert
and Serenity Covert;

her sister,
Betty Howard, Cartharge, MO;

and many nieces and nephews.

Mildren was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her sister, Leona Givens; and 2 brothers, Robert Davis and Donald Davis in infancy.

A Mildred L. Stuart memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Mildred's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Shady Rest, and Above and Beyond Hospice, for all of their care and support.
