Heart Emblem

Mildred F. Heiderscheit, age 94, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 8:55 a.m., on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Mildred's life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road, with Rev. Joseph L. Hauer officiating. To celebrate Mildred's life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where the Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mildred was born on September 29, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Katharine (Davidsaver) Duster.

Mildred was united in marriage to Francis J. "Frank" Heiderscheit on January 5, 1944, at St. Joseph's Church in Rickardsville. The couple was truly blessed with over 67 wonderful years together, and 4 children, before Frank was called home ahead of her on December 27, 2011. She was a very loving and selfless wife, mother and grandmother who took great pride in caring for her family and home. Mildred loved to spend her spare time cheering on her Wahlert Golden Eagles, and tending to her flower gardens and apple trees while always looking forward to a full season of ever changing color, as well as a nice fall harvest. Mildred also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandson, Tim; and every gathering was one we will surely cherish forever. Mildred has been referred to as a continual "ray of sunshine" and to know her, or experience her beautiful spirit firsthand, was to absolutely understand that statement in no uncertain terms. She was definitely a faith-filled woman who not only recited the Rosary daily, and was a long-time member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Francis Court #774, but also earnestly spent countless hours along her earthly journey praying for missions, as well as watching for her next opportunity to help someone in their time of need. Sorrow surely grips our hearts today with the sudden absence of our beloved Mildred; but we are thankful for the peace which comes from our understanding that Mildred has now rejoined Frank, once again, to begin their eternal union together while tending to their always bountiful and perpetually weedless garden on the grounds of their Heavenly Estate.

Those left to cherish Mildred's memory include

her children,
Rose Marie (Wayne) Small, Dubuque, IA,
Pauline (Norlyn) Michel, Bettendorf, IA
and Mark (Karen) Heiderscheit, Dubuque, IA;

a grandson,
Tim Heiderscheit, Iowa City, IA;

and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis "Frank" Heiderscheit; a son, Donald in infancy; a sister, Sr. Francois Duster, OSF; and a brother, Fabian (Lucille) Duster.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Stonehill, and Finley Hospital, for all of their professional and attentive care.
