Heart Emblem

Mary M. Crippes, age 95, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 6:02 p.m., on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Stonehill Care Center. To honor Mary's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Mary's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mary was born on March 9, 1921, in Rickardsville, Iowa, daughter of Thomas and Anna (Franklin) McCann.

Mary was born and raised in the Rickardsville area before eventually moving to Dubuque. She was united in marriage to George Crippes on August 18, 1942, at St. Joseph Church in Rickardsville, and they were blessed with 43 wonderful years together, and 2 sons, before he was called home ahead of her on May 6, 1986. Mary had a strong work ethic and she earnestly applied her talents at the Dubuque Casket Company for 5 years, the General Dry Battery Factory for 10 years, and lastly at the University of Dubuque for 29 years until her well earned retirement. She had a unwavering love and devotion for family and would proudly fulfill her role as wife and mother, as well as primary care giver for her ailing family members who were called home ahead of her. Mary's faith was an integral part of her life and she was a long-time and faithful member of St. Mary's Church. We will surely awake Christmas morning to the beat of aching hearts, but we trust that Mary is now celebrating Christmas with the best seat in the house this year, and that she's finally been reunited with all of her earthly family whom she's been dearly missing over the years.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include

her nieces and nephews,
Karen Lynch, Platteville, WI,
Tom (Michele) Kelly, Milwaukee, WI
and Pat (fiancé Sue) Kelly, Milwaukee, WI;

her dear family friends,
Donna Maas,
and Jim Lux, both of Dubuque, IA;

and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, George Crippes; 2 sons, James Crippes in infancy and David Crippes; and her 4 brothers, Emmett, Raymond, Leonard and Lawrence McCann.

A Mary M. Crippes memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Mary's family and friends would like to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of their kind, compassionate and loving care of Mary.
