Dove Emblem

Mark T. Lewis, age 60, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 1:40 p.m., on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at home, surrounded by his loving family. To celebrate Mark's life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Family and friends may also join together at the Farley Speedway Ballroom, 27317 Olde Farley Road, from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

Mark was born on January 7, 1957, in Dubuque, son of Russell and Mary (Kiefer) Lewis.

Mark attended Dubuque Senior High School and would eventually return to spend the last 15 years, of his 36 year excursion, with the Dubuque Community School District. There is no denying Mark's passion for horsepower, speed and high octane fuel. He would devote his entire life outside of work to racing in every aspect and continually discovered ways to keep the sport fresh and interesting in his mind. Whether it was his accomplishment of attending over a thousand races throughout his life, catching some of his favorite late models running hot laps, or even the countless books he's read to obtain all the behind the scenes action and history on racing; you can be sure that every hour invested was considered to be time well spent to Mark. Unfortunately, Mark has heard his last cam rumble to life today, but we know that the 60 years he has spent with us were full of memories and experiences which we can rely on to get us through until we see Mark again.

Those left to cherish Mark's memory include

his son,
Russell (Jenny) Lewis, Dubuque, IA;

his step-daughter,
Tammy (Tobias) Thatcher;

and his grandchildren,
Angelina, Mary-Alice, Nate and Cody.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mark T. Lewis memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among his favorite charities.

The family would like to thank Fred Boyes for all the years, and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate and loving care.
