Sister Lucy Kurt, OSF, of Clare House, Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at 12:27 p.m., on Friday, December 30, 2016. To honor Sister's life, The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, in Francis Chapel, 3390 Windsor Avenue. To celebrate Sister's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 1, 2017, with the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., in Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Sister was born on June 1, 1925 in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of George N. and Barbara Ann (Weber) Kurt.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1945, and made final profession of vows August 12, 1951. Sister was a teacher and/or principal in Iowa schools at St. Mary's in Waterloo, Sacred Heart and St. Mary's in Dubuque, St. Andrew's in Sibley, St. Thomas Aquinas in Webster City, St. Mary's in Manchester and All Saints, in Portland, Oregon. Sister also worked in Pastoral Ministry at St. Patrick's in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Sister is survived by her brothers Karl (Lolly) and Ronald (Patricia) Kurt, her nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared over 70 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Ralph (Lorraine), Rev. Allan Kurt, and Stephen who died in infancy; and her sister Wilma (Clifford) Priebe.
