Dove Emblem

Larrie W. Owczarek, age 92, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 7:20 p.m., on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. To honor Larrie's life, private family services were held. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Larrie was born on August 5, 1924, in Majaczewice, Poland.

Larrie unfortunately spent some time in Germany during World War II in a work camp. Thankfully, while there though, he met his destined true love and future bride to be, Maria. Eventually, after they were united in marriage, and the war ended, the couple came to the United States in 1951 with their first 2 children. They were generously sponsored by Dr. Johnston, and faithfully worked on his farm until finally receiving their United States Citizenship in 1957. Larrie was a very hard and diligent worker who devoted 35 years of his labors to the Kretschmeer-Tredway Company as a stainless steel welder. He also enjoyed putting his talents to use in the evenings repairing both watches and clocks. Larrie's faith was important to him and he was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Church. In his free time, Larrie enjoyed turning the wrenches on his vehicles and occasionally trying his luck at the casino. Larrie's 92 year journey has come to its conclusion and we are grieving from the loss of such a wonderful example of a real man from our world, but we also know that Larrie is surely happy to be reunited with his lovely wife, Maria, once again and that all the trials they faced here on earth are nothing more than memories for us to bear now. Well done Thy good and faithful servant and may God keep you both in the peace of His loving arms until we meet again!

Those left to cherish Larrie's memory include

his 3 children,
Henrietta (Jim) Crumes, Vinton, IA,
Matthew Owczarek, Dubuque, IA
and Joseph Owczarek, East Dubuque, IL;

his 5 grandchildren,

his 4 great-grandchildren,

and his 3 great great-grandchildren.

Larrie was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Maria Owczarek.

A Larrie W. Owczarek memorial fund has been established.

Larrie's family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital for all of their compassionate and professional care.
