Heart Emblem

Kathy J. Walters, age 64, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 3:16 p.m., on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. To honor Kathy's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Kathy's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Kathy was born on July 2, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Iris "Buck" and Georgia (Petrakis) Walters.

Kathy was a proud lifelong resident of Dubuque, who graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1970. After school, she would begin her working career in the clerical field and put her talents to use with several different firms around town. Kathy had a naturally kind and caring nature about her, and would graciously become a compassionate caregiver for her parents in their later years. She also had a friendly, outgoing personality which definitely drew people into her world. A conversation with a complete stranger was a very common occurrence in Kathy's day; and if there was a kiddo or a dog in the mix, the opportunity to make a new friend was a guarantee. Kathy also loved spending time with family, and a sisters shopping trip would always bring a joy to her heart which could never be undone. Kathy was a delightfully wonderful daughter, sweet sister and loving friend, and we are truly saddened by her passing from this world to the next. We do, however, take comfort in knowing that she is no longer plagued by her earthly ailments, which she faced quite bravely here, and that she is joyfully reunited with her parents once again.

Those left to cherish Kathy's memory include

her sister,
Dianne (James) Hoppman, Dubuque, IA;

2 aunts,
Rita Sullivan, Dubuque, IA
and Barb Walters, Des Moines, IA;

and several cousins.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and several aunts and uncles.

A Kathy J. Walters memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Kathy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her cousin, Julie Houselog, and her other caregivers, JoAnne Jack and Marilyn Gilloon, for all of the loving care they have provided Kathy. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque Nursing and Rehab, Hospice of Dubuque, and No Place Like Home, especially Diane, for all of the kind, professional, and compassionate care they provided to Kathy and her family.
