Joseph D. "Don" Wells, age 88, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 12:10 a.m., on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Don's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at St. Patrick's Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Msgr. Thomas E. Toale officiating. To celebrate Don's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where a parish scripture wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Entombment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Don was born on June 2, 1929, in Shullsburg, WI, son of William and Mary (Teasdale) Wells.

Don always took great pride in honorably serving his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Don was also a proud graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, class of 1967. He was joyfully united in marriage to the love of his life, Camilla Rummel, on March 10, 1951, at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque. Their union was blessed with 66 wonderful years together, and 3 beautiful daughters. Don was raised with a strong work ethic, which he eagerly shared with his company, and co-workers at Caradco for 25 years, and lastly as an electrician at Dubuque John Deere Works for over 16 years, until his well earned retirement. Don was a longtime and active member of St. Mary's Church, St. Patrick's Church, as well as the John Deere Retirees, U.A.W. Local #94 and the American Legion Dubuque Post #6. In his free time, Don could generally be found with his trusty remote close at hand while watching his favorite programs, or even thoroughly working on his crossword puzzles while confidently completing them in pen. Sadly, our hearts are broken today as we must face the reality that Don's 88 year earthly journey has arrived at its conclusion today. But, even through the unrelenting sorrow and tears we realize that we are eternally grateful for all of the absolutely precious memories he leaves behind, as well as the life lessons which will be evident within our family lineage for generations. Thank you Don for continually making the world a better place and may the Lord keep you safe in His loving arms until we meet again.

Those left to cherish Don's memory include

his loving wife,
Camilla Wells, Dubuque, IA;

his children,
Catherine (Steve) Underwood, Ringsted, IA,
Christine (Michael) Gibson, Dubuque, IA
and Constance (Michael) Kubesheski, Coconut Creek, FL;

3 grandchildren,
Joseph Kubesheski, Katherine Kubesheski and Jason (Gina) Eygabroad;

and 2 great-granddaughters,
Presley and Ava Eygabroad.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Audrey (Eugene) Niday, William Austin (Shirley) Wells and Robert (Nancy) Wells; and a grandson, Christopher Joseph Eygabroad.

In lieu of flowers, a Joseph D. "Don" Wells memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among his favorite charities.

Don's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kirkendall, his nurse, Kate, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Finley Hospital for all of their kind, compassionate and professional care of Don, and his family.
