Dove Emblem

John H. "Jack" Kieffer, age 79, of Holy Cross, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 7:18 a.m., on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Dubuque Specialty Care, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Jack's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Pastor Jack Redmond officiating. To celebrate Jack's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home.

Jack was born on May 4, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Henry and Genevieve (Wagner) Kieffer.

Jack was employed with the John Deere Dubuque Works for 11 years, before moving on to pursue other job interests, including Hoofs Manufacturing in Maquoketa, along with other various ventures throughout his life. His favorite endeavor however, was working with the Cooks Farms in the Balltown area, where he happily spent the last 15 years keeping busy. He was truly an avid outdoorsman; hunting, trapping, archery and bass tournaments and gathering ginseng were some of Jack's most treasured opportunities. Sadly, Jack has departed our lives quite suddenly, but we are eternally grateful for the memories he leaves behind.

Those left to cherish Jack's memory include

his children,
Connie (Earl Harry) McDonald
and Jeff Kieffer, both of Dubuque, IA;

his 5 grandchildren,
Patrick (Shannon Gross) McDonald, Matthew (Haley Rennison) McDonald, Ashley McDonald, Zoe Birch and Emily Harry;

his 7 great-grandchildren,
Tylor, Chance, Carter, Landon, Blake, Katlyn and Ashlyn;

and his 2 siblings,
Jim (Karen) Kieffer
and Judy (Art) Allen, both of Dubuque, IA.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kim Kieffer; and his former wife, Virginia Darnell.

A John H. "Jack" Kieffer memorial fund has been established.

Jack's family would like to extend a special thank you to Pat and Duane Cook, Ray Dean, and the nurses and staff at Dubuque Specialty Care, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of their friendship and compassionate care of Jack and his family.
