Jean A. Graf, age 87, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 2:00 a.m., on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Luther Manor. To honor Jean's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road. To celebrate Jean's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Jean was born on November 30, 1929, in Galena, IL, daughter of Raymond and Berniece (Ripperda) Houtakker.

Jean was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, Class of 1947, and then went on to proudly continue her education with the University of Minnesota. Most of her career was spent working as a secretary for various companies around town before finally retiring from Prudential Insurance. She was united in marriage to Thomas Graf in 1955, in Mason City, Iowa. Sadly, they would later divorce, but not before being blessed with 3 wonderful sons. Jean was a kind and loving woman who was a long time member of St. Raphael's Cathedral. She also had a great appreciation for art and thoroughly enjoyed painting and creating her own masterpieces. Above all though, Jean loved to spend time with her family and friends. Any time spent with those she loved was treasured, but something as simple as a eating out would absolutely brighten her day. We are truly saddened by Jean's passing from this life to the next, but find real comfort in knowing she is once again reunited with her son, James, and that we will all be together again for all of eternity.

Those left to cherish Jean's memory include

her 2 sons,
John Thomas Graf, South Wayne, WI
and Robert P. Graf, Hopkins, MN;

and her siblings,
Helene Byrne, Dubuque, IA
and Richard Houtakker, LasVegas, NV.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Graf; a sister, Richelle Houtakker; and a brother-in-law, William Byrne.

A Jean A. Graf memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Jean's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor for their kind, compassionate and loving care of Jean these past years.
