James J. "Jim" Kleiner, age 78, of Dubuque, IA, was called home peacefully at 10:40 a.m., on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Luther Manor, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Jim's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, November 21, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Schmitt officiating. To celebrate Jim's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Jim was born on October 25, 1938, in Dubuque, IA, son of Charles and Lorraine (Heri) Kleiner.

Jim was a proud lifelong Dubuquer who learned early on the importance of faith, family and fun. He would eventually find his true love, Mary Kay Banfield, and they would be united in marriage on February 8, 1964, in Cuba City, WI. Their union would be blessed with 52 years, and 3 wonderful children, together. Jim always appreciated the value of hard work and would faithfully invest over 41 years of his time and talents as a maintenance engineer with the Brown Publishing Company. After retiring in 1997, Jim definitely made the most of his new found free-time, and the joy he had always found in outdoor activities was easily quenched whenever an opportunity arose. He truly enjoyed the feel of the waves hitting the bow of his boat on a sunny day, but he also treasured his 35 snowmobiling trips to Wyoming, where he was able to blaze trails in the fresh snow on a cold day. Family was undeniably the most precious part of Jim's life though. Spending time with Mary Kay, his children and the grandkids were the moments which truly kept Jim's mind, body and spirit feeling fulfilled. The last few years have been difficult to bear as Alzheimers would slowly grip Jim's body, as it concurrently broke our hearts without hesitation. We grieve today as our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend has been taken home suddenly, but we find peace in knowing that his earthly struggles have finally ceased and that he is thankfully resting in a state of eternal perfection waiting patiently for us all to be reunited again one day.

Those left to cherish Jim's memory include

his loving wife,
Mary Kay Kleiner, Dubuque, IA;

his 3 children,
Lisa Marie (Tony) LoBianco, Peosta, IA,
James Alan "Jamie" (Laurie) Kleiner, Glenview, IL
