Heart Emblem

Gloria A. Streng, age 92, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 9:40 a.m., on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Gloria's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church, 1701 Rhomberg Avenue, with Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Gloria's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Gloria was born on October 22, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph Jacob and Augusta L. (Weickert) Weber.

Gloria was born and raised in Dubuque, eventually graduating from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1942, and continuing on with determination to complete her education at Bayless Business College. She would meet and marry the love of her life, Lloyd A. Streng, on August 5, 1950, and their union would be blessed with over 66 wonderful years together, and 3 beautiful children. Gloria had a strong work ethic instilled from a young age and she promptly began her working life with the Savanna Ordinance Depot, followed by some time at the Rooster Feed Mill, and next on to Spahn and Rose, and finally a short stint at Manpower Temporary Services. She would thankfully find her true calling and begin devoting her time and talents to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She would start her venture as the Holy Trinity Catholic School secretary, and finally retire at the spry age of 79 after years of service in the Trinity Square Daycare Center. Gloria was always a loyal and faith filled woman who was truly devoted to her parish. She generously volunteered with numerous church festivals, breakfasts and funeral dinners over the years. In her younger years, Gloria was known to spend her free time on the tennis courts, or skating graciously around the ice rink; but as time passed she would discover the joys of sitting down at her sewing machine and creating beautiful works to share with her loved ones. Gloria has been blessed with 92 years here on earth, and thankfully her battles have only been a few and tenaciously overcome. But still, our hearts and minds ache today with our loss and the realization that we'll have to wait patiently to complete our next full family game of Pinochle in Heaven.

Those left to cherish Gloria's memory include

her husband,
Lloyd Streng, Dubuque, IA;

her children,
David Streng, Dubuque, IA,
Jody (Tom) Cies, Richardson, TX
and Terry Streng, St. Michael, MN;

her in-laws,
Denise Streng, OSF,
Joan (Richard) Hamilton,
Clara Streng, OSF,

and numerous nieces and nephews;

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Alana Beth Cies ; 3 sisters, Lidwina Weber, Leonilda (Clifford) Pogeman and Imogene (Robert) Grant; and her brother, Burdette (Darlene) Weber; 2 brother-in-laws, Robert Streng, John (Geri) Streng; and a sister-in-law, Doris Streng.

A Gloria A. Streng memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Gloria's family would like to thank Drs. Chris and Tom Sinsky, the nurses and staff at Medical Associates, Stonehill, and Hospice of Dubuque, and Father Thoman for all of their kind, loving, professional and compassionate care of Gloria, her family and her friends.
