George C. Fox, age 89, of Dubuque, died at 12:35 p.m., on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, IA. To honor George's life, funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m., until the time of services at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

George was born on July 17, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Joseph and Mary (Newcomb) Fox.

George proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, and was assigned to the Marine 1st division in Korea. He was united in marriage to Edith "Nancy" Bennett, on June 5, 1965, in Dubuque. George and Nancy were blessed with 38 wonderful years together and 3 children before she passed away on January 12, 2004. George was a hard worker who put his talents in maintenance and manufacturing to good use at several companies throughout the years. He was a "do-it-yourselfer", performing all of his own plumbing, electric and carpentry work around the house, as well as taking care of his automobiles. George was a voracious reader, a love which was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Above all George loved his family, they meant the world to him and he especially looked forward to any time spent with the grandchildren. We are deeply saddened at the loss of our father, grandfather and friend this Christmas season, but take some comfort in the knowledge that he is now with his beloved wife, Edith Nancy, and all of his departed loved ones.

Those left to cherish George's memory include

his 3 children,
Francis (Lisa) Fox, Vinton, IA,
James Fox, Dubuque, IA
and Nancy Fox-Sass, Iowa City, IA;

and his 7 grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; and his loving wife, Edith.

A George C. Fox memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among his favorite charities.
