Love Emblem

Ellen M. Robertson, age 92, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 4:45 p.m., on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Luther Manor, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Ellen's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Pastor Burton Everist officiating. To celebrate Ellen's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Ellen was born on July 11, 1924, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, daughter of Clarence G. and Marjorie M. (Davis) Anderson.

Ellen was born and raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa, until her family relocated to Peoria, Illinois, where she eventually completed her primary education at Woodruff High School. Shortly after graduation, Ellen would be united in marriage to the love of her life, Gerald Robertson. Their union would begin on October 17, 1942, in Austin, Texas, and they would be truly blessed with 51 wonderful years together, and 5 beautiful children, before he was called home ahead of her on May 16, 1994. They eagerly settled in Dubuque to raise their family in 1947, after the completion of Gerald's military service. Ellen was nothing short of a loving wife and mother who found great satisfaction in continually fulfilling her God given mission to love, nurture and adore her family. She would seamlessly transition these skills into her inevitable role of wise and gentle grandmother and great-grandmother. Ellen was a consummate collector of unique and personal memorabilia; but thankfully her natural gift of systematical organization was easily able to keep every memento in it's proper place. In her free time, Ellen learned to appreciate the value of a few subtle brush strokes on the canvas at her most recent painting class, but ultimately some of her most indulgent hours were simply enveloped in the culmination of a warm pair of slippers, a comfortable blanket and her most recent issue of People magazine. Witnessing Ellen's earthly departure so close to Christmas is beyond difficult for our hearts and minds to bear, but we trust that she is permanently at rest from her physical struggles now, and thankfully she is once again reunited with her heavenly family whose Christmas celebration will truly be filled with peace.

Those left to cherish Ellen's memory include

her 4 children,
Judith M. Robertson, Kerrville, TX,
Richard (Elizabeth) Robertson, Asbury, IA,
Ronald (Laura) Robertson, Dubuque, IA
and Donald (Peggy) Robertson, Louisburg, WI;

her 8 grandchildren,
Jacob Robertson,
Abigail (Aaron) Butcher,
Owen (Susan) Robertson,
Nicole (Nicholas) Close,
Jessica LaPage-Robertson,
Jennifer (Matthew) Swartz,
William Robertson
and Kaylena Robertson;

her 9 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way;

and 2 sisters-in-law,
Donna Anderson, Phoenix, AZ
and Betty Anderson, Eugene, OR.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Gerald Robertson; a son, Dwight Robertson; a daughter, Jerelyn Robertson; a granddaughter, Laura Ann Robertson; and 2 brothers, Jim Anderson and "Bill" Anderson.

An Ellen M. Robertson memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Ellen's family would like to extend a special thank you to her friends, and the nurses and staff at Luther Manor, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of the kind, compassionate and loving care they have given Ellen, and her family, these past years.
