Betty was born on April 14, 1925, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Bernard and Josephine (Leytem) Honerbaum.

Betty was a proud lifelong resident of Dubuque. She was united in marriage to Herbert H. McClain on July 31, 1946, in Dubuque. They were blessed with 34 years together, and 5 children, before he was called home ahead of her on January 14, 1981. Betty was a dedicated employee who earnestly worked at the Savanna Ordinance Depot, William T. Conery and J.C. Penney, before eventually retiring after 29 years of loyal service. Betty's faith was very important to her, and she was a long time member of St. Mary's Church, before joining Holy Spirit Parish after St. Mary's closed. She was a very social woman who was also a dedicated member of the Betty's Club of Dubuque, and the J.C. Penney's Retirees Club. Betty was a talented seamstress who very much enjoyed her craft and the hum of her sewing machine. She was also an excellent cook who has pleased many a palates over the years with her famous cookies. Thankfully, Betty was generously given the opportunity to spend 91 years along her earthly journey, and the love she shared and spread along the way will provide comfort for those she loved and adored until we see her again.
