Duane C. "Dewey" Theisen, age 70, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 2:03 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Dewey's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, March 6, 2017, at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 2001 Saint Joseph Street, with Rev. Gabriel C. Anderson officiating. To celebrate Dewey's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Dewey was born on September 20, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Cletus and Eileen (Hefel) Theisen.

Dewey was proud to be a lifelong resident of Dubuque who was a graduate from Wahlert High School, Class of 1964. He was raised with a strong work ethic and would diligently put his time and talents to work at John Deere Dubuque Works, the Diamond Jo Casino, and Windstar. Dewey was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jan (Imhof) Farber, on June 10, 1994, in Dubuque. Their union would bring together a combined family of 12 children, and the 22 years they were blessed with were truly years of abundant joy. Dewey was undeniably a "people person" and if you weren't friends with him, it's most likely because you've never crossed his path. When he wasn't conversing with his countless friends, you could find him savoring a little time in the great outdoors. Whether he was out spending the day with a fishing pole in hand, dreaming of his next motorcycle ride, gathered around the cribbage board, spending quality time with his amazing granddaughter, Abby, or simply sitting around the campfire with family, you could be sure that Dewey was experiencing a perfect moment in time. So Dewey's sudden absence from our lives is definitely more than our hearts were prepared for. We will continue to smile at the memories of Dewey with a cold 1919 Rootbeer, and a bowl of New York Vanilla ice cream in hand, but we also find peace in knowing that he has now been given Heaven's secret recipe for BBQ Ribs and that he'll have a bountiful platter ready for each of us when we finally arrive to see him again.
