Heart Emblem

Donna J. Cooksley, age 61, of Epworth, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 4:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Donna's life, funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Rhonda Pope officiating. To celebrate Donna's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m., until the time of services at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Donna was born on August 25, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Mike and Darlene (Roe) Reuter.

Donna was born and raised in Dubuque and was a proud graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. In her younger years, Donna joyfully shared her beautiful voice around town with her dear friends in "Sing Out Dubuque", and also, due to her diligent independence spirit, was awarded the title of #1 Tupperware Saleswoman in San Diego. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Cooksley on February 28, 1975, in Dubuque, and they were blessed with 41 years together, and their continually content cat, Izzy. Donna was well known for her ability to make friends wherever she went, and her love of socializing with family and friends. Whether you were a co-worker at Hatch's or Sam's Club, or simply a regular customer, you were sure to have crossed Donna's path at some point and share first-hand in her natural "gift for gab". Donna would truly find value in the occasional trip to a craft show, or even a pleasant evening around the campfire. We have lost a precious soul today, and our world will never be the same, but we have witnessed that Donna's 2 year battle with cancer has definitely taken a toll on her and we find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace from her earthly struggles.

Those left to cherish Donna's memory include

her loving husband,
Bill Cooksley, Epworth, IA;

her sisters,
Judy (Keith) Kelly
and Sherry Neuwohner, both of Dubuque, IA;

a sister-in-law,
Vede Smith, Clinton, IA;

a brother-in-law,
Ronald Kennedy, Dubuque, IA;

her niece and nephew,
Jennifer (Brian Simon) Kelly, Dubuque, IA
and Shawn Kelly, Dubuque, IA;

a great-niece,
Calsey (Tyler) Bradley;

and a great great-niece and great great-nephew,
Julia and Rhett Bradley.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Bob Neuwohner; a sister-in-law, Melnetta Kennedy; and a great nephew, Ronald Kennedy.

A Donna J. Cooksley memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Donna's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Wolbers, Dr. Khan, and Mayo Clinic for all of their wonderful care and support.
