Love Emblem

Delores M. Finn, age 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully at 6:00 a.m., on Monday, January 2, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Delores' life, funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon Mike Ellis officiating. To celebrate Delores' life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m., until the time of services at noon, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery.

Delores was born on August 2, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of George and Belva (Duncan) Dunwoody.

Delores grew up in Dubuque, living with her Godmother, Elizabeth Ploog, and eventually graduated from St. Joe's Academy. She was destined to meet the love of her life, Justin Michael Finn, and they were united in marriage on October 29, 1952, at St. Raphael's Cathedral. They were truly blessed with 57 years together, and 5 wonderful children, before he was called home ahead of her in 2009. Delores was raised to have a healthy admiration of working diligently, which she put to proper use in private housekeeping for several families throughout her career. But Delores' real mission in life was to care for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always the proud curator of a loving home and an undeniably talented cook who continually kept those she loved and adored well fed. Delores also appreciated a little adventure in life, as evidenced by one of her favorite trips to Ireland with her beloved Justin. Faith was an important and integral part of her life, and she would faithfully call Church of the Resurrection her home towards the end of her adult life. Sadly, we must begin the new year knowing that we've spent our last days together with Delores here on earth, but we also know that she leaves behind an abundance of precious memories and lessons which will assist us through the remainder of our journeys until we are all reunited again one day.

Those left to cherish Delores' memory include

her children,
Kevin A. (Cathy Howard) Finn, Fort Collins, CO,
Dennis (Ann) Finn, Dubuque, IA,
Tim Finn, Dubuque, IA
and Kathleen Finn, Dubuque, IA;

her 7 grandchildren,
Logan Howard-Finn, Justin Howard-Finn, Molly Finn, Daniel Finn, Sarah (Joel) Jackson, Bailey (Flinn) Milligan and Jacob Finn;

and 3 great-grandchildren,
Harper and Rory Jackson and Brayden Stender.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Justin Finn; a daughter, Maureen Finn; 5 sisters; and 7 brothers.

A Delores M. Finn memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Delores' family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Stonehill, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of the kind, compassionate and loving care they have provided Delores.
