DeLos W. "Boney" Bohnsack, age 79, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 5:40 p.m., on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Boney's life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Trinity Church, 1701 Rhomberg Avenue, with Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Boney's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where a parish scripture wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Boney was born on December 26, 1937, in Galena, Illinois, son of Benjamin J. and Katherine (Yackey) Bohnsack.

Boney was a proud Dubuquer who found great joy in being born in Galena, but having lived his entire life in the tri-state area. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy J. Roth, on June 27, 1959, at their beloved Holy Trinity Church in Dubuque. Their union was blessed with an absolutely adored daughter, Beth Anne, and this year they joyfully celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary together. Boney knew, and appreciated the value of hard work and would eagerly begin his career with the Dubuque Packing Company in 1958, and went on to faithfully dedicate over 42 years of his time with the company, along with the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Local #150, until his well earned retirement in 2000. Boney was never able to sit still, and following his retirement he would go on to devote another 5 years to the Dubuque Yacht Basin as a security guard. He also put his charming personality to good use in the customer service departments at Eagles, and Hy-Vee on Locust, until he finally reached his 70th birthday and decided it was now time to rest from his labors. Boney's faith was a priority throughout his earthly journey and this fact was clearly evident to all around him. He not only practiced his faith in his day to day words, thoughts and actions; but he was also a long-time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Boney was always on the go and was well known for his daily 5 mile walks, as well as the beautiful woodworking projects he continually created within the confines of his ever productive wood shop. We are deeply saddened with the loss of our wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend; but are also forever grateful for the 79 years the Lord saw fit to share Boney's kind and loving heart with us. Thankfully, we find true comfort in knowing, and trusting, that Boney is now resting peacefully in the merciful arms of his Heavenly Father; where we will all eventually be reunited with him again one day.

Those left to cherish Boney's memory include

his loving wife of 58 years,
Dorothy J. Bohnsack, Dubuque, IA;

his daughter,
Beth Anne (Darin) Fischer, Dubuque, IA;

his siblings,
Darlene Wearmouth, Belvidere, IL,
Violet Moliter, Rockford, IL
and Donald (Dorothy) Bohnsack, Galena, IL;

and several nieces and nephews.

Boney was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Delbert and LeRoy (Mary) Bohnsack; 3 sisters, Loretta (Vincent) Lange, Helen (Joseph) Wearmouth and Jane Ann Bohnsack; and 2 brothers-in-law, Clarence Wearmouth and Herbert Moliter.

A DeLos W. "Boney" Bohnsack memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among his favorite charities.

Boney's family would like to extend a special thank you to all of their family and friends, and also to the nurses and staff of Finley, Stonehill, and Hospice of Dubuque, for all of the kindness and compassionate care they have provided to Boney, and his family.
