Bert Peter "Pete" Kalb, age 64, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home suddenly at 8:41 a.m., on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at home. To honor Pete's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Columbkille's Church, 1230 Rush Street, with Rev. John J. O'Connor officiating. To celebrate Pete's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 10, 2017, at St. Columbkille's Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Pete was born on October 10, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Dr. A.J. and Millie (Elliott) Kalb, the second oldest of 12 children. He married his childhood sweetheart, Kathy Ferris, on September 15, 1978. They were blessed with 38 wonderful years and 3 beautiful children. After graduating from Wahlert High school in 1971, he began working as a mechanic at John Deere Dubuque Works. He worked for over 40 years, before retiring in 2015. He was a "jack of all trades" and often helped family and friends with their projects. A hard worker, Pete enjoyed staying busy and helping others. His expertise and knowledge were far beyond anything found in a textbook. Pete was a dedicated family man. He loved his wife and they truly enjoyed being together. They shared a love of sports, travel and socializing with their many friends. Pete and Kathy recently returned from their annual trip to Florida, which included the Daytona 500. Pete was most proud of his children and was always there for them. He traveled around the county supporting their athletic endeavors and could be heard cheering on the sidelines. As they grew older, he was often called on for advice and guidance. His children admired him greatly and Pete's influence continued with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his silly voices and sayings, playing countless games of Uno, and attending many of their school and sporting activities. Pampo Pete always had his six grandchildren smiling; his love for them was evident and they adored him in return. Peter held a special place in his heart for his mom. He visited her almost daily and cherished the time they spent together. Pete also had a strong bond with his 11 brothers and sisters; he would do anything for them. Pete was a friend to all who knew him. He was an avid Nascar fan who spent many years at the tracks with the racing crew. He played poker with buddies on Sunday afternoons and loved a good game of euchre. His free time was spent having a cold one with his fellow Leaky Lodge members, at the Grand Tap, or at Choppers. Pete was a loving husband, the best dad and grandpa, a favorite son and brother, and a dear friend to many. He will be remembered for the sound of his voice, his loyalty to family and friends, and his humble ways. Pete will truly be missed.
