Albie was born in Dubuque on September 17, 1942, son of Paul Oberfoell and Ida (Gansemer) Oberfoell.

Albie married Carol M. Timmerman on August 12, 1967, at St. Patrick's Church, Dubuque, IA. They were blessed with four children and raised them on Robin Hood Drive.

Albie loved baseball and enjoyed playing with his brothers, umpiring for local teams, and rooting for the Cubs. He was an active umpire for the Prairie League Baseball teams and later for softball games through the City Recreation League. He also loved the Rams, and enjoyed watching the games with his sons.
