Tribute & Message From The Family

Grace V. Vondran, age 89, of Potosi, WI, was called home peacefully at 9:35 a.m., on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Grace's life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, 231 Bluff Street, with Msgr. Thomas E. Toale officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Kieler, WI. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Grace was born on October 4, 1928, in Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of Michael and Barbara (Riley) Kirchberg.

Grace was born in rural Wisconsin and she would happily call the rolling hills of the Badger State home for her entire life. She was united in marriage to Robert Vondran, and together they would settle in Potosi to raise their 10 children, before he was sadly called home ahead of her on May 30, 2014. Grace was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, who, to everyone's delight, had a passion for cooking and was excellent at creating a wide variety of wonderful dishes. She was a caring mother and was quite proud of her ability to make sure all of the children were well taken care of, always making sure each knew how loved they were. Grace was a straight-shooter and you never had to guess how she felt about any subject, whether you were on her side or not. In her free time, Grace loved to get in the car and head out for a "Sunday drive", no matter what day of the week it was, and her happiest destinations were the ones that led to visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed years of a little down time listening to Betty Thomas on the radio. We are deeply saddened at the loss of our kind mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will surely miss her more than words can convey; but we are also grateful for the 89 years we had to spend with her and the memories we created which will last a lifetime.

Those left to cherish Grace's memory include

Mom,things I feel most deeply, are the hardest things to say. Dearest mom I loved you in a special way. If I could have one lifetime wish one dream that could come True, I'd pray to God with all my heart for yesterday with you. Missing you always your daughter

Mom I will never forget the day God took you home. A million times I've needed you. A million times I've cried. If love alone could have saved you you would have
never died. In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still. I'm my heart you hold a place no one else can fill. It broke my heart when you left me but part of me went with you the day God took you home. May you be in peace mom no pain until we meet again

Mom, things you taught me: You taught me how to cook and bake, digging through a box with all the recipes cut out of magazines or newletters from Betty Thomas; you reminded me to stand up straight; you taught me to be independent; you taught me ladies can still tell a foul joke; you taught me to be honest; you taught me to love nature. Memories of you: Taking off school just to reminisce about relatives, have tea and crackers, and bake; watching and helping you prepare almost a dozen pumpkin pies for thanksgiving, nothing measured, just a taste test--they were the best; seeing you can a thousand quarts of tomatoes, beans and corn; seeing you help butcher and clean hundreds of poultry; you never sat still except to enjoy a cup of coffee. Things will never be the same with you and dad not here, but I feel you are together, that handsome dark-haired gentleman with his movie-starlet looking wife, the way I see you both in your wedding photo. Love you mom.

Mom I read a poem that conveys my thoughts. It went something like this
God looked around his garden and found an empty space
He then looked down to earth and saw your face
God put his arms around you and lifted you to Rest In Peace
Gods garden must be beautiful
With you in his place.
Love always, your daughter

I close my eyes and I see
All the memories that I have of you
When I sit and relax
I will find
Your still there inside my mind
I cry for you, and now your gone
For your in a land of song
Where there is no pain or fear
I try to dry away my tears
I will never think of you, Mom in the dark and cold
For you are no longer old
In a place full of love
Known to us as up above
You, mom will forever feel warmth, comfort and our love
I miss you and love you
Debra Vondran-Byrnes.

Vivian was my godmother. She had a special bond to my mom Edna. Vivian and I missed my mom for 29 years. It gives me comfort to know the two great ladies are now together. I used to tease Vivian that she was my favorite godmother. She would always say, you damn fool I am your only godmother. Then she would smile. Being called a damn fool by Vivian was a term of endearment! I loved her so.
