Albie was born in Dubuque on September 17, 1942, son of Paul Oberfoell and Ida (Gansemer) Oberfoell.

Albie thoroughly enjoyed his childhood with his 14 siblings on his parents' farm in Sherrill, IA. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, and served two years in Germany. Upon his return, he began driving for Iowa Oil Co. delivering oil to homes, farms, and construction sites. He then worked for five years at John Deere. After being laid off, he began his own carpet cleaning business. He was employed at Wahlert High School and Ace Hardware until retirement.

Albie married Carol M. Timmerman on August 12, 1967, at St. Patrick's Church, Dubuque, IA. They were blessed with four children and raised them on Robin Hood Drive.

Albie loved baseball and enjoyed playing with his brothers, umpiring for local teams, and rooting for the Cubs. He was an active umpire for the Prairie League Baseball teams and later for softball games through the City Recreation League. He also loved the Rams, and enjoyed watching the games with his sons. He was always eager for a good euchre game with his competitive brothers.
