Tribute & Message From The Family

Austin J. Walling, age 24, of Dubuque, Iowa, was called home suddenly as the result of a motorcycle accident, on Saturday, February 18, 2017. To honor Austin's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road, with Rev. William M. Joensen officiating. To celebrate Austin's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Austin was born on June 1, 1992, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Daniel and Donna (Fay) Walling.

Austin was a proud graduate of Hempstead High School, Class of 2010. After school he went to work for his father's business at The Locksmith Express, but he also eagerly invested many hours working at Fagan's Hobby Shop and handing out fresh cinnamon rolls at the yearly Hobby Shows. Austin was united in marriage to Taylor "Minnie" Avery on July 29, 2016, in Dubuque. Although their union has been much too short, they were truly blessed with one beautiful son, Patrick. Austin was a good man with a loveable and quirky personality who definitely desired to live life to its fullest. Many moments would bring Austin great joy throughout his 24 years here among us. He has faithfully attended air shows since the tender age of 4, he would work diligently to learn to play the sax, he would fly his RC airplane with friends in the Platteville Flyers, and he would find subtle moments of tranquility while creating his newest pen at his woodworking table. But Austin's most treasured moments though were undeniably the time he would spend with his family and friends. He took great pride in being a wonderful husband and father, but he never quite relinquished completely his role of son, brother and grandson as his new responsibilities emerged in life. He loved everyone equally and would always share his acts of kindness whenever an opportunity would arise. Unfortunately, Austin has been called home much too early along his earthly journey. He has sadly taken his last bike ride here and left a trail of broken hearts behind. We know that his light will continue to shine on in the lives of those who knew and loved him, but we can barely imagine the day where we don't feel a pain so deep and true that it literally takes our breath away. We love you Austin, we miss you more than words can express, and until we meet again; may the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, and may the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace!

Those left to cherish Austin's memory include

My sincerest deepest sympathy to the Walling family. Austin was always a joy to be around. Austin was very energetic and always willing to help anyone. Austin's life was too short but the time he had he lived it to the fullest and was always happy. He is with his grandfathers now and looking down on all of you. He would want all of you to go one and keep going with your cherished memories.

I only knew Austin a little bit but through the interactions we shared and how I saw him impact those around him I feel like I knew who he was. He was an amazing dad, husband, son, and friend. He is gone too soon and will not be forgotten. I am especially thankful for the times I saw my brother light up after getting to talk or hangout with him. Rest in peace Austin.

Our sincere sympathy to your family. We met Austin a few weeks ago when we were locked out of our home. Austin was a little late, but when he arrived he apologized for the time we waited and opened the door and told us no charge. He also told us how to get a key made with a smaller charge. We met him a few days later at Locksmith Express and he made duplicate keys for all the doors. He was so accommodating and we were so impressed with him. We just want you to know what a great young man he was, and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Danny & Donna,

God hath not promised
Skies always blue. Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through.

Sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day; Rest for the labor, Light for the way;
Grace for the trials, Help from above;
Unfailing sympathy, Undying love.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you with undying love and sorrow.

Although I only know about Austin from the words of his grandmother's love for him; he must have been an awesome grandson. My deepest sympathy to Bonnie and the rest of his family. We are never ready to part with a loved one,but a man this young and vibrant seems incomprehensible. May the Holy Spirit enfold you as you grieve.

To Dan, Donna, Minnie, little Patrick & the rest of Austin's family:
Although Austin was born after I worked for Dan, Don, & Bonnie, I will always remember the pride with which they all spoke of, when I would ask "how are the kids?" Austin was part of a wonderful, loving family that undoubtedly made him the amazing young man he became. Working for the Walling's was always a learning experience -- I can honestly say I still can use much of those skills to this very day! Austin was blessed to have you all in his short life, as you all were blessed to have him. He came from a terrific family, and I can honestly say I know exactly the pain you all feel, as I lost my brother to a motorcycle accident when I was 9 years old. Just like Austin, he only had 20 short years on this earth, but his impact on those of us around him will be felt forever. Time is the only thing that eases the pain -- and it will never go away. You all have my deepest condolences and all of my prayers in this terrible time. God bless all of you.

Dan & Family,

So, so sorry to hear about Austin. I know the pain you are feeling now and will continue to feel. I can't imagine what you and your family are going through now and will continue to go through every passing minute. I didn't know Austin himself except to see him at work but Dan has been a friend for quite some time. I hope time heals but for now just know that the Good Lord needed another angel by his side.

Dan, Donna, Minnie & all the Walling Family

We sadly extend our heartfelt sympathies to you on tragic loss of Austin.

For many years, our families had many good times together at the Quad City Air Show. And during the time, the Walling family was such an integral part of support to the performers and fans.

It was a pleasure knowing Austin from a very young age which will long linger in our memories. And now so soon, it's especially tragic for Austin to be forever gone from his young family, Minnie & Patrick.
